“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited” - Plutach
He is alive and well. Former star-student at the Church Army Academy Emmanuel Asamba has not changed much except in maturity and expanded knowledge. We visited with him at Dagoretti High School and found him bristling with good health, hard work and intelligence.
Asamba’s class master Mr Steven Njuguna praised the boy in front of his classmates, calling him a responsible and focused young man who is doing well academically.
As a result of the impressive character he has exhibited, Asamba has been appointed the class monitor of Form 1 East. “Although the first term in Form One is a tricky one for judging a student’s capability, I feel that this boy is exhibiting all the right signs of an academically focused and disciplined person who can be nurtured into a success,” Njuguna said.
By God’s grace Asamba’s fees for the first term have fully been paid. We did notice, however, that his shoes are old and a shiny new pair would perfectly match his brilliance. Asamba is an orphan who completed his primary education at the Academy through the school’s Bursary Fund.
Those inspired to invest in this promising young man can get in touch with the Resource Management and Communication Unit office at the Church Army Africa secretariat and discuss how they can assist Asamba.
Mt Kilimanjaro conquered
All the 6000 metres height of Mt Kilimanjaro literally lay under the feet of a team of climbers from Church Army recently in a determined climb to raise money for the Church Army school bus.The team comprising climbers from Church Army UK and Church Army Africa, among them teachers from the Academy, conquered Africa’s tallest mountain at a price.
They came back with peeling, and in some cases bleeding noses and ears, so worn out that getting a word out of them was like, well, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. But they scaled the mountain, as this picture, and others behind, shows.
Sports Day at the Academy
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” is an old adage. And Church Army Academy (CAA) students, not to be considered dull in any sense, had a whale of a fun day slugging it out in various sports disciplines with Mary Immaculate Educational Complex (MIEC) at the Academy grounds on Friday, March 10. The competition in the three disciplines of soccer, volleyball and netball were as thrilling as they were fiercely contested.
In netball, the Academy girls were put out of joint by their rivals who beat them 29-1 even though referee, Sis Anne Naliaka admitted that it may not have looked fair since she, the referee, was from MIEC..
The CAA girls’ however beat MIEC 4-2 to win the girls’ soccer. The soccer title among boys was won by MIEC who beat CAA 3-0. The Academy’s girls continued to shine, winning the volleyball title by 2 sets to 1. The boys however, did not fare well and lost 2 sets to 1 to Mary Immaculate.
The events, which started in the morning and went until about mid-afternoon, were the first of their kind and were the initiative of Church Army Academy Principal, Mr. Alex Kagunda. The aim, he says, is to tap and develop the children’s sports talent while at the same time giving them interaction opportunities to share with other schools

As the moment of Soul Nairobi draws near, we want to testify of God’s moves towards the project by giving thanks for the things he has done and continues to do.
Soul Nairobi, set to run from August 5 to 13, is a city-wide event organised by Church Army. During the event, thousands of young people from churches in Nairobi are going to share the love and compassion of Jesus Christ with the city’s residents through engagement in certain social activities. The youth will engage in clean-ups, painting of public buildings, music gigs, etc as a way of making Christ known. more>
