“Taking care of children who come from areas where poverty is a major issue makes my heart filled with joy,” Alex Kagunda, the principal of Church Army Academy, says.
Mr Kagunda says that the school caters for children form rich and poor backgrounds.
The Principal is proud to say that the school has posted impressive results in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams. Students from the school have joined reputable secondary schools.
He however notes that some of the children come from families that have lost either one parent or both to the deadly disease HIV/ AIDS. These children find it difficult to pay school fees or buy school uniforms.
|
| |
| The school is located in a poor neighbourhood with high incidence of crime, unemployment and disease. As part of its mission to bring about positive change in communities, Church Army developed the Bursary Fund to help children whose learning is threatened by their poor backgrounds. There are two types of bursaries, the Full Bursary Fund and Partial Bursary Fund. | |
| The Full Bursary Fund, Mr Kagunda explains, caters for orphans and/or those whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS, while the Partial caters for those who have lost a parent or a parent has been retrenched. | |
|
| |
| There are over 30 children supported by the Bursary Funds. All the beneficiaries of these Funds have their uniform, textbook, meals and trips’ needs covered. | |
| The Academy is a school with a Christian foundation. The students are taught in an atmosphere of Christian principles. This may help them make a difference through responsible behaviour in a neighbourhood where lawlessness is prevalent. | |
|
| |
| Besides teachers for the ordinary school curriculum, the school has three Guidance and Counselling professionals to give encouragement and moral support to the children, especially those who have lost their parents. | |
| Through increased support, Church Army Academy can expand the Bursary Fund to accommodate more brilliant children in dire need of support to sustain their education. We always encourage those who would like to partner with us to visit us, witness what we do and work with us in granting education to the world’s future leaders. | |
